Measuring tool classification for precision measurement

Measurement technology is a frontier science with its own professional system, covering a variety of disciplines, theory and practice. And familiar with the basic knowledge of measurement technology, is to master the measurement skills, independent completion of mechanical product geometric parameters measurement basis. There are different classifications according to use and according to national standards.

Classification by use

(1) Standard measuring tools. Used as a standard of measurement or verification. Such as measuring block, polyhedral edge body, surface roughness comparison sample block.

(2) Universal (or universal) measuring tools. Generally refers to the generality of manufacturing by the factory. Such as ruler, plate, Angle block, calipers and so on.

(3) special (or non-standard) measuring tools. It refers to designed and manufactured specially for testing a technical parameter of the workpiece. Such as internal and external groove calipers, wire rope calipers, step gauges, etc., are measuring instruments that reproduce the value in a fixed form. Its characteristics are as follows:

1) The unit measure value is directly reproduced, that is, the nominal value of is the actual size of the unit measure value, such as the measure block itself reproduced the unit of long measure.

2) There is generally no measuring mechanism, no indicator or moving component in the structure. For example, a measure block is only a physical object to reproduce the value of a unit measure.

3) Because there is no measuring mechanism, the measured value cannot be directly measured without relying on other matching measuring instruments. For example, the measuring block should be equipped with interferometer, optical meter. So it's a passive measuring device.
